Lunch for Kids While They're Out of School
You may remember that River City has had a strong ministry relationship in the past with The Pointe Apartment Complex on Stonybrook Dr. The Pointe is an apartment complex of Section 8 Housing and has many kids that attend Alex R Kennedy Elementary School. The Pointe reached out to River City to see if we could help with food scarcity for their kids while they are out of school. They don't have a JCPS feeding site within walking distance. What a blessing that the administration would turn to us for assistance!
Mission leaders at River City have decided to partner with St. Matthews Campus, F3 Louisville and Alex R. Kennedy Elementary School to provide 50-75 meals (hopefully daily) for the next two to three weeks. You can help by making a donation at https://www.rivercitymethodist.com/give-online/ click on "Donate" and select "Lunch for the Pointe" in the drop down menu. Donations will go towards food cost. Any extra funds will go towards River City Pastor Discretionary that helps people in need.
You can also collect the items listed below and drop them off at River City (4611 Lowe Rd, 40220) Monday-Friday from 10:00am-1:00pm. The big deal with the items is that they are prepackaged and individually wrapped.
Desserts/Snacks (crackers, granola bars, fudge rounds, etc)
Vegetables (prepackaged carrots, celery, etc)
Apple Sauce or Fruit (fruit does not have to be prepackaged)
Chips (individual sizes)
Drink Box or Bottle Water
Lunch Item--prepackaged and easy to access (pop top soup, easy mac ravioli, spaghettios, etc)
We will also be recruiting people to help package the items. We will limit this to two to three people per packaging time. If you are feeling sick please do not volunteer to package the items. We will send out a sign up genius on Tuesday for people to volunteer.
If you have questions please contact Karen Frey or Derek Robinette.
